Bhubaneswar: Mainstreaming of Right To information Act (RTI) in solving community problems and accessing information is handicapped by grossly low-level of awareness among the population at the grass-roots.
People are unaware of the entire chain of citizens’ rights under RTI starting from application to complaint and appeal. This despite RTI being a very potent weapon to ensure action in core areas like land rights, forest rights, NREGS, IAY, drinking water, agriculture, electricity, education and health in the rural and backward areas.

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to sensitise the young about the functioning of the legislature and evoke interest in politics in them, Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar Heritage in association with CYSD organised a Youth Parliament at Royal College of Science and Technology here today. Around 200 students from 20 junior colleges and higher secondary schools took part in the exercise.

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the Central Information Commission Wazahat Habibullah on Tuesday called for greater transparency and accountability among private agencies and non-government organisations through complete disclosure of information.
Delivering a foundation day lecture at CYSD, an NGO, here, Mr. Habibullah said, civil society and private concerns should make all information available to public and let everybody access information from cyber-cafe.
‘Poor healthcare a concern in rural Koraput’

BHUBANESWAR: Poor healthcare continued to be a concern for people living in rural pockets of Koraput district, finds a survey.
A Citizen Report Card (CRC) was prepared basing on the feedback of people in Baipariguda and Kundra block of Koraput district on basic services provided by panchayats such as drinking water, health, sanitation, road, street lights and other women and child development programmes.
