From Persistence to Prosperity: Jamuna Adhikari’s Farming Journey

Banana cultivation can transform a farmer’s life by creating steady income and strengthening livelihood security. Jamuna Adhikari from Gulumunda village in Rayagada district is a clear example of how the right crop, combined with perseverance and knowledge, can bring meaningful change. On her 3 acres of land, she has been growing vegetables like tomatoes, brinjals, chilies, and cabbage, ensuring regular income and food for her family.

A few years ago, Jamuna experimented with banana cultivation and earned good profits, which encouraged her to take it up again. With support and guidance from the APC Project team, she improved her understanding of better farming practices, crop care, and land management. This knowledge helped her confidently restart banana cultivation along with her vegetable farming, making her efforts more productive and sustainable.

For the past 3 to 5 months, she has been carefully managing her banana crop while continuing vegetable cultivation. This combination has reduced risks and created a more stable source of income. Her dedication and willingness to learn have strengthened her journey towards self-reliance.

Jamuna’s story shows how perseverance and the right agricultural knowledge can improve livelihoods. By growing both vegetables and bananas, she has not only secured her family’s future but also contributes to providing food for others, making her journey a strong example of sustainable farming.
