Subhadra Nayak of Barbil Gram Panchayat of Kendujhar District who transformed her life from a homemaker to an inspiring grassroots leader. Before becoming Sarpanch in 2019, she closely witnessed the challenges faced by her community, including poor infrastructure, water scarcity, limited connectivity, and lack of social security services. Re-elected in 2022, she turned these challenges into opportunities for change.
Under her leadership, pension coverage increased from 250 to 750 beneficiaries, ensuring greater social protection for vulnerable families. She facilitated improvements in roads, household tap water supply, and pond development to strengthen local resources. The establishment of a market complex and weekly haats enhanced livelihoods while increasing Panchayat revenue.
Her vision of a “Clean and Green Gram Panchayat” improved sanitation and earned district-level recognition. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she ensured food and essential support reached every household.
Supported by CYSD through the PRAGATI project, Subhadra strengthened her governance and leadership skills. Today, her journey demonstrates how committed local leadership can drive inclusive development and create lasting change within communities.
