My Journey with CYSD: From a Learner to a Contributor

When I first walked into CYSD on 12th August 2023 as a Gopabandhu Fellow, I had little idea of how transformative this journey would be - not just in shaping my career, but in reshaping me as a person. Coming from an urban background, fresh out of my Master’s in Social Work at Utkal University, I entered rural Odisha with hope, curiosity, and a desire to serve. Today, as a Program Associate with Project PRAGATI, that initial curiosity has grown into a deeper sense of purpose and responsibility.

The transition to fieldwork was not without challenges. The unfamiliar dialects, the cultural differences, and the rhythms of rural life felt overwhelming at first. But gradually, patience and perseverance became my companions. Over time, I discovered that beyond the barriers lies a profound human connection - that’s where real development work begins.

At CYSD, I was entrusted with responsibilities that stretched me and helped me grow. From writing and documentation to engaging with communities and understanding the nuances of the Panchayati Raj system and livelihood initiatives, every task became a learning opportunity. Each day in the field revealed new lessons, and every challenge turned into a stepping stone toward personal and professional growth.

What inspires me most is CYSD’s vision - a dream that begins at the grassroots and empowers communities to shape their own future. Being part of this mission has been both humbling and motivating. CYSD is not just a workplace; it is a space that nurtures professional excellence while encouraging self-reflection and personal evolution.

I am deeply grateful to those who have walked alongside me in this journey. Shri Kamal Kant Barik, Sr. Programme Manager, laid the foundation of my career during my early days at the Tikiri Project in Rayagada. Suvam Ku. Jena, Zonal Integrator–North Odisha, mentored me with patience and clarity through the challenges of my placement at Saharapada. Shri Akash Mahanta at Anandpur and Thakurmunda has been a source of constant support and motivation. And to my PRAGATI team—I owe much of my strength to your encouragement, companionship, and unwavering support.

CYSD has taught me to live simply, think deeply and work meaningfully. It has shown me that growth isn’t just about moving forward it’s about growing together, with the community, with your team and within yourself.
